Who Relegated Warri Wolves?

In 2015 Warri Wolves almost clinched the Nigeria Premier League title but was beaten to it, by the people's elephant of Aba, Eyimba Fc and finished second place on the Nigeria Premier League table.

The following season, the team was relegated alongside Giwa, Heartland and Ikorodu united.

Not so much has been held about this once laudable sport project since relegation and this is not good for the development of sport in #Warri.

I've wondered why a team that almost won the league was relegated.

Who is responsible for the relegation of the WarriWolves?
1. Fans/Residents?
2. Management?
3. Government?

This question has led me to ask why at the reformation of Nigeria premier league a club that bought Jude Aneke for 12 Million Naira, the highest transfer fee then, is struggling in the lower league.

A team that once prided itself with players like the scorer of the winning goal, Sunday Mbah that brought Nigeria's last CAF nations cup, Ambrose Vanzekin who won the under 17 world cup with coach Yemi Tella, King Osanga, Oghenekaro Etebo, Azubike Egwuekwe etc

A team that the current NFA chairman, Mr. Amaju Pinnick once chaired.

The last time I visited the home of the wolves, Warri city stadium, although it had some challenges that can be easily fixed, Life outside the stadium was lit.

Restaurants and local pub was filled customers who not all loves football, could not resist the excitement.

There are numerous socioeconomic benefit to having a functional sporting system and #football happens to be the most commonly accepted and unifier, but yet a golden goose in our city, that can be laying golden eggs is hemorrhaging.

A critical look again at the obvious reasons
1. Fans/Residents (60%)
2. Management (20%)
3. Government (20%) that are responsible for the current position of our darling team, you may or not agree but as fans we relegated Warri wolves, yes we can be quick to blame other options, but we can't shy away that even when Governor Uduaghan subsidized the ticket fee, we prefer our EPL, Laliga and wishing we were at Stamford bridge or Nou camp, when our chairs in the stadium remains begs to be seated on and stands asking for roars.

You see, I think this is another form imperialist domination, neocolonialism perpetuated through globalization. By definition, globalization could have helped leverage vital sectors of our economic, presenting them with opportunities to play at the global stage, but that's not the case it rendered already working system useless.

At the height of globalization we lost our ICC shooting stars, Bendel insurance, NPA FC to the European football teams and denied our future their sporting heritage.

The management of the team has a huge chunk to share in this predicament, how can Warri Wolves not have a functional website?

The social media handles are inactive, how can residents/fans connect with their team when they have little or no digital footprints?

It's expedient we ask why that a team that was doing so well in the last administration became a shadow of itself in the succeeding administration?

Funding remains a sporting challenge, but if 30% of us regularly supported Warri Wolves by going to see the team and buying tickets and Jerseys maybe the case would have been different.

I am not far from the truth that we residents/fans, team management and government collectively relegated Warri Wolves and we should do all we can to bring her back.

The first step to achieving that is to go out there and start talking about it, on social media and to anyone who cares to listen to our rants.
