60-year-old woman docked for six months, Rapist bagged Two years

If there's one thing very obvious in Nigeria Judicial system is the swift justice meted to poor and for petty crimes.
If it's for the powerful and rich the cases will linger on and on in court houses and often times the suspected rich going without any charge or charges dropped.

A 60-year-old woman, Adegunwa Adejoke, was today sentenced to six months imprisonment for breaking a shop with the intent to steal.
She was docked at an Ikorodu Magistrate Court in Lagos State.

Adejoke pleaded guilty to the three-count charge of conspiracy, housebreaking and burglary brought against her.

Mrs A.B. Olagbegi-Adelabu, the magistrate who gave the verdict, sentenced the woman to six months each on the three counts, totalling 18 months, but said these sentence will at the same time.

The convict, Adejoke claimed she was lured into the act by some people who fled the scene, before she was caught by security man.

Although no goods was stolen, but a stone was found in hand that was used for the act.

The magistrate expect that the judgement will teach the convict a lesson and help her turn a new leaf.


A 57 year old man has been sentenced to two years in prison for raping a nine year old girl.

A Plateau Upper Area Court sitting in Jos on Monday sentenced Abdullahi Yusuf, to two years imprisonment.

Mr Mohammed Yahaya, the judge handed down the sentence after Yusuf pleaded guilty to the crime and begged the court to have mercy on him.

The convict who lured the girl into his room and forcefully penetrated the minor, threatened to kill her, if she tells anyone is act to anyone.

The judge give the convict an option of fine, adding that the sentence was meant to serve as a deterrent to those who might want to engage in similar acts.

The culprit had raped the minor on the 20th of April.
