WaFIT : Warri For IT.

Myspace, Sean Parker’s Napster started the social media revolution, but Jack Dorsey of Twitter and Mark Zuckerberg of Facebook, Instagram and Whatsapp made social media a vital part of human existence. I have sat down to think about what’s life after social media? What’s the next phenomenon invention that will unseat new media? Is it another social media or?
There’re tons of social medias, that we have lost count, so you’ll pardon my surprise when I first heard of Meetup.com from Mr. Edirin Atumah. Meetup brings people together in thousands of cities to do more of what they want to do in life. It is organized around one simple idea: when we get together and do the things that matter to us, we’re at our best. It brings people together to do, explore, teach and learn the things that help them come alive. For example, people write, thanks to writing Meetups. people change their careers, thanks to career Meetups.

Warri needs IT, thanks to WaFit (Warri for IT) the first ever official IT meetup for Warri the vehicle Mr Atumah is using to kickstart the WaFIT Movement, where people welcome each other, talk, help, mentor, and support each other – all in pursuit of moving their lives forward.

Mr. Edirin Atumah the lead behind the waFit movement is an IT consultant with experience across different industries in Nigeria and Europe on software development and testing projects and with this strong background, he strategically built through years if schooling, learning and working he’s set to give back to his city of birth.

WaFit (Warri for IT) is a movement aimed at harnessing the vast amount of Intelligence and potentials available in Warri to turn the city into the IT capital of Nigeria by providing information, inspiration and practical support, to give useful and relevant IT training to aspiring IT professionals through Specialized IT boot camps, computer education to primary and secondary school children in Warri, who would otherwise have no opportunity to learn.
People might have written Warri off, or think it’s impossible for Warri to be great again. The same was said about China, Singapore to name a few...but their story is different today.

Therefore we believe Warri must and can have another exportable material apart from oil and entertainment. Warri will export the next generation of IT experts working locally and with global relevance.

WaFit is a volunteer driven community, which needs all range of skills to enable this dream become a reality and she’s inviting the sons and daughters of Warri in Diaspora, making waves in various IT fields to join this movement and contribute to the growth and development of IT in Warri.
